Guest guest
Both our contents and buildings insurance have recently come up for renewal. They are with different companies. The buildings premium quoted was over £140, so I asked for a quote from the contents people - they said £65 to add it on to the existing policy. Wow - £75 cheaper. It seemed too good to be true, but the cover was very similar, so I took it out. I obviously didn't bother phoning to renew the buildings with the current insurer, so I was a bit gob-smacked to receive a letter saying " thank you for renewing " and " we have debited your credit card " . It turns out that the renewal letter (which I hadn't read start to finish) said, " to renew, you do not need to do anything " ... What a swizz - they'd covered me without me confirming it. I got straight on the phone ready for a battle, but the lady was very nice, cancelled the policy there and then refunded the premium. It's obviously a ploy to get business, but at least they weren't difficult, when I didn't actually read their letter properly.
