Bad PTU Batch! Boo.

Just whining becuase I still can't get a proper lot of PTU here in Canada. I

am caught between the former mfg. Merck -Frosst and the current small

company Paladin who now makes this " orphan drug. " I am becoming more hyper

becuase of the lack of efficacy of this latest lot, this after I was

euthyroid on the same dosage for almost a year. My TSH was even creeping

back up to normal.

I don't know whether to switch to tapazole which I didn't seem to tolerate

well, add some bugleweed tea, start BRT and pray, or keep lighting a fire

under both companies until I get satisfaction. I can tell within a half-hour

of taking 50 mg. of PTU whether a batch is " good " . My eyes un-redden

immediately and any vision weirdnesses clear right up. As well, I can

swallow again! That is how close to the bone my dosage is, and how sensitive

my body is to the right dosage. I am in Canada, so I am sure the USA batches

are still fine. This is freaking me out, though, I thought I had a handle on

all this stuff.

You sure have my sympathy. The final 6 months or so that I was on my PTU, it

was very obvious how much of a difference that teeny tiny bit can make in

the same time frame you describe. I do think we may have both developed the

ability to be ...how did you say it ?

You might want to consider finding a good Naturopathic doctor and getting

two tinctures. One of Bugleweed and one of Lemon Balm.

I know others try the over the counter stuff, but I see no reason to take

that kind of risk. This is your health and the rest of your life we are

dealing with here.

It is NOT a matter of cost. One appointment will be about $75 and the

tinctures are $10 a piece. So under a hundred bucks, and you have supplies

for 6 months to a year. ( for those of us on PTU, and very carefully working

our way down. )

Think of the knowledge you will pick up in that appointment too.

Now if cost is NOT a factor, then follow up appointments will be a good idea

too. But no matter what, you MUST continue with regular labs every 4 weeks

just as you have been doing. I did these with my regular endo.

Till then, I believe it was you that said the tea was working well. Once you

have the tincture though, you will be able to very carefully get the exact

right amount of drops on the proper schedule, with the tea can not do. Too

much variation.

In my mind, I believe there was some last resistant antibody somewhere and

my herbs finished it off. LOL We will never know for sure, given the lack of

complete knowledge about thyroid disease, but given that YOU have become

this in tune with your body over TIME, I really think this could be a viable

option for YOU.
