Is DMPS better than DMSA? ---------Different people do better on different chelators, and some can use either, like me, so it just depends on the person. The biggest advantage with DMPS is the longer half-life, so you get more sleep at night, because the dosing is every 6-8 hours, instead of 3-4 hours with DMSA. And it also depends on what metals you are dealing with. DMSA is best for lead and mercury, and DMPS is good for arsenic and mercury. And DMPS requires a prescription, and DMSA doesn't.----------Jackie Is the protocol the same as DMSA? -----------I explained above, that the half-life is longer, so the timing is different, but it is the same principle, dosing on the half-life of the chelator.---------Jackie How much should I start with? I weigh 125 lbs. ---------We never can predict how people will react, so we always suggest starting at 12.5mg per dose for the first round, to see how you do, and that's for either DMSA or DMPS. Then, based on symptoms, you either stay there or move the dose up or down, to find the best dose for you. It can take a little experimenting in the beginning. If you do happen to get a script for DMPS, you could even ask for 10mg, to get a round number. 12.5 comes from people splitting 25mg caps in half. Also, read TK's general recommendations for starting chelation in the files section of this group. And lots of good info at moria's website, especially the ANDY INDEX.---------Jackie Thanks Sheila
