Guest guest
i cannot see any metal in my mouth and neither can anyone else. However my dentist claims i have metallic fillings in my mouth. i will phone her again on Friday. --------If it's a mercury amalgam filling, you should be able to see it, unless it's small and in betweeen teeth, or under a crown, or something like that. But most of them you can see. * What do crowns look like? Are they white and flatten bitting surfaces of teeth? In that case my filling would be under the crown. You will need to find out *for sure* about this. Do you trust this dentist? * i dont know as ive only been with her for less than a year. When i told her last time (filling was done before i changed dentists) " no mercury please " she quoted me a price and i agreed to pay for it. But im with an NHS dentist and cant afford private treatment for a few months. Maybe you should get a second opinion from a mercury free dentist. You could also get a PAN x-ray done, because the filling would show up on there. Then you would know for sure. -----Jackie * Im in North Somerset UK, if the dentist is easily accessible by public transport and i can afford the fees then i will seriously consider mercury free dentist. How do i get a PAN x ray done? Thanks for you help is

Ask your old dentist who put the fillings in for proof to give your new dentist, like possibly x-rays and/or dental records. They should be able to tell you which teeth have fillings, and they are all numbered, for easy reference. Also ask when the last time you have had a PAN x-ray done. If it's been a long time, you might be able to get them to do a new one, which will help determine if you have any mercury in your mouth.---------Jackie --------If it's a mercury amalgam filling, you should be able to see it, unless it's small and in betweeen teeth, or under a crown, or something like that. In that case my filling would be under the crown. -----------I believe most crowns are tooth colored and are designed to look like teeth. Some crowns have been made of gold alloys, etc. The problem is, the tooth usually needs to be built up underneath, and sometimes this is done with amalgam, and it will not show up even on x-rays, so the crown needs to be lifted to check for amalgam. So a crown covers and replaces most of the tooth, and a filling just fills a cavity, leaving most of the tooth. I think you really just need to ask for your dental records, to make sure you know what you got.---------Jackie You will need to find out *for sure* about this. How do i get a PAN x ray done? ----------I'm in the US, so hopefully some of our UK members will respond and maybe be able to help you, and understand your system better than I. A PAN x-ray is done at your dentist's office, but I think they usually only recommend doing them once every 5 years. But mercury fillings will show up on this. But I think mercury under a crown may not, and will still have to be checked by actually looking under it. Here's a link to Dean's website with info about PAN's and at the bottom, a link to actually see what one looks like.----------Jackie http://www.livingnetwork.co.za/healingnetwork/pan.html Thanks for you help is
