Hi is

It can be hidden under an old white composite filling. A PAN would show

this.

The cover the tooth. Sometimes if they are done well and the margin is close

to the tooth you won't even know it is a crown.

Usually older crowns are made of metal and you can see the metal margin.

Yes, they can be, these would be called onlays or inlays.

Yes, yes, yes. Get a PAN. Though remember, you can't look under metal crowns

on x-ray.

I'm not sure how it works in the UK. We can just walk into an x-ray

department here and ask for one. Some dentists are able to do it.

Digital PAN's are best so then you can email to others for comment. Phone

your local x-ray departments, or ask your dentist - that way she'll know

you're serious.

Also, ask your dentist to put it in writing (email works) that there is no

chance of mercury. When you ask for that, suddenly 'I'm sure there is no

mercury' becomes, 'we had better make sure with a PAN and lift the old

crowns " .
