I decided to post one question at a time. So please bear with me. Thank you!

My new Pulmodude requested all new blood tests. He said that one of them was

positive for " vasculitis " .

I had a bronchoscope about 2 weeks ago and he said that the cultures show no

chronic infections. Thankfully! BUT, the cultures did not show the vasculitis. I

need to have more blood work for verification of the vasculitis.

He said that if the new tests show up negative, then he may want to do open lung

biopsies. If the tests show up positive, then he may want to put me on

Prednisone. Prednisone makes me diabetic so he said I would have to take insulin

shots.

My question is....has anyone experienced " vasculitis " ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi ,

Vasculitis is a very broad term that refers to inflammation of the blood vessals. It's not necessarily related to infection. I'm sure they are going to be doing more tests to pin down more specifics of the vasculitis. There are many causes and varying degress of severity. I would ask your doctor to explain to you exactly what he/she is looking for and what effects it can have on you.

If they confirm the vasculitis and put you on prednisone, that will be to reduce the inflammation in your blood vessals. It's probably the best reason to have to go on prednisone, reducing inflammation is what prednisone does best and the side effects can, with work and caution be managed.

Something that works for me is to take a notebook to doctor's appointments, take notes and ask questions. Don't leave the office till all your questions are answered!
