You don't *have* to start ALA right at 3 months. You could wait a little longer, especially since you say you haven't chelated for a few weeks. I would suggest at least one more round of DMPS by itself, and see how you feel, after having a break from it.---------Jackie > So if 3 months isn't a magical number why would one need to wait until 3 months to begin ALA? Why 3 months in the first place? Why not 2 or 4 months? ----------I should have probably worded that differently. You should wait *at least* 3 months, there's nothing wrong with waiting longer than that. I think there are two reasons to wait, and one is more chemistry related, so not sure if I'll do a good job explaining that one. The first one, since ALA crosses the BBB and can carry metals *into* and *out* of the brain (it's a two-way street), you want to wait to use it so you lower your body burden first, to lower the chance of moving more metals into your brain, instead of out. The second, has to do with what form the mercury is in. It is in one form when it enters your body as mercury vapor, and it takes awhile for your body to convert it to the form that ALA can chelate. I hope I got that right. Chemistry buffs, add the correct terminology please! I know you are supposed to wait a few months after recent exposure, before using ALA. It's probably covered in AI and in the ANDY INDEX or searching archives. My brain is getting tired, and I know I'm not explaining this very well. , someone, help!-----Jackie I know I'm into only just starting my 5th round of DMSA, but I don't feel that much difference on or off round at 25 mg. I've noticed improvments since starting, but nothing negative and nothing earth shattering either. Might it be ok for those who aren't heavily mercury toxic to begin ALA before 3 months? ------------I can't recall discussions or posts by Andy saying that it is ok to start sooner than 3 months. You could search the archives and/or the ANDY INDEX. I think it is *safest* to wait at least 3 months. But, I may not be the person to ask, since I'm one of them who still doesn't tolerate ALA. I really suggest to all of you, if and when you have time, to spend time reading in the links and files, and especially the ANDY INDEX. I remember reading over there *alot* when I first joined these groups, and alot of these questions are answered there. I'm just running out of time and brain power to track down links for you right now.---------Jackie Thanks, Mike
