Cindy,

From what I understand from Elaine 's book, " Graves' Disease, " that PTU,

but not the other ATD, Tappazol, can (rarely) cause liver damage, possibly

because it interferes with vitamin A usage, so you should definitely get a

baseline liver function and recheck every few weeks, especially in the early

months.

Plus watch for jaundice, etc.--hepatitis symptoms. My hepatitis (B, 1979) is

apparently gone from my system, but I'm watching my liver tests closely, having

sort of randomly ended up on PTU rather than Tappazol.
