However I want to do one more round of DMPS by itself without ALA before doing it with ALA. ----------3 months isn't a magical number. You don't *have* to start ALA right at 3 months. You could wait a little longer, especially since you say you haven't chelated for a few weeks. I would suggest at least one more round of DMPS by itself, and see how you feel, after having a break from it.---------Jackie I also want to do these two rounds before a major event in just over one week. I dont want the second round to end up on my off day -----------If it were me, I wouldn't " rock the boat " and try something new like ALA, right before a major event in my life. You don't know how you're going to react to it. If you are functional enough on and off rounds of DMPS and can handle the major event as you are now, then I would wait until AFTER the major event to try ALA.-------Jackie Is it ok to only use a 1,2,3 days off period between the round with ALA and without ALA. It was my understanding that the just as many days off as on was only required for ALA or DMPS/DMSA with ALA, and not DMSA, DMPS by themselves. Is this correct? -------------The general rule with all the chelators, is as many days off as on. It doesn't matter what combination, or by themselves. So if you're doing 3 days on, then take 3 or more days off. I think exceptions might come when someone has *alot* of experience with chelating, and find that they do *much better* on round than off, then a shorter off time might be ok. E.G.--say you chelate with DMPS for 2 or 3 weeks on, then one week off would probably be enough. I think longer rounds are considered *more ok* with DMPS and/or ALA, but get difficult with ALA because of the frequent dosing. You would probably find more on this by searching archives or checking the ANDY INDEX and length of rounds.-----------Jackie

Why 3 months in the first place? Why not 2 or 4 months? I know I'm into only just starting my 5th round of DMSA, but I don't feel that much difference on or off round at 25 mg. I've noticed improvments since starting, but nothing negative and nothing earth shattering either. Might it be ok for those who aren't heavily mercury toxic to begin ALA before 3 months?
