Guest guest
After all the recent postings I watched Gladiator twice this weekend, once with my husband and once with my kids, (nearly 15 and 12, both girls) and I still think it was a brilliant film. Girls loved it, didn't find it gory at all and also tried to spot the join in Oliver . If anyone knows which bits of him are real and which are not please, please tell me! Personally, I think the gore is in context, it was a gory era. What I object to is gratuitous gore - a prime example was in Seven, one of the most nasty films I have ever seen. I never watch horror films, I can't see the point of paying to be frightened out of my skin and having my sleep disturbed for months afterwards. There are many films I love (and I'm the type who watches films over and over again) but my all time fave is probably The Third Man. If I compiled a list of my personal favourites, most of them would be pre- 1980s and hardly any of them would be American/Hollywood. I have a large collection of old B&Ws so if anyone wants to come and have a good weep over Dirk Bogarde as Sydney Carton " doing a far, far better thing " or Virginia McKenna being so British as Violette Szabo let me know! And in case any of you are wondering, I may have the film tastes of a wrinklie but I am only 42! Akiko
