Guest guest
Sue - Do you have any other insurance that you can go to? If not, I'd look into some private or supplemental insurance pronto if you can. The problem, as it has been explained to me by insurance underwriters, is that if you have a lapse in coverage (like when your cobra runs out and if you don't have another insurance that starts right afterward) any medical conditions you have now are pre-existing conditions for a future medical policy. This could cause you problems down the road with the next insurance your get. Some company insurance plans will have a pre-existing conditions waiver, meaning your pre-existing conditions would still be covered under that policy. However, not all policies will have this, so if you get one that doesn't, all of your thyroid and any other medical conditions you had under previous insurance can be _excluded_ on a new policy. So any future treatment you have for thyroid would not be covered by a new policy. There is something called a Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPPA), but all that is is a statement from a previous insurer saying that you were covered for such and such conditions under such and such a policy. If you don't have more than a 63 day lapse in coverage, then usually all pre-existing conditions that were covered under an old policy will be covered under a new policy. (The number of days may vary by policy, but 63 is the number I've run across most often). That's why it may be time critical to see if you can get covered under another policy. How long have you had the COBRA? Are you paying for it yourself? Depending on the size of the company, you can get COBRA coverage for up to 18 months (of course, you pay for it yourself, though). I'd definitely get in touch with your COBRA benefits administrator and see what your options are if you haven't already. Good luck! Just went through agonizing benefits decision here, so a lot of this is too fresh in my mind cobra issue > i run out of cobra end of month. anyone knows what happens then? > > sue > > > > At any given moment, life is completely senseless, but viewed over a period, > it seems to reveal itself as an organism existing in time, having a purpose, > and trending in a certain direction. > > Aldous Huxley (1894-1963) > > >

And no I have no alternative coverage. Are you paying for it yourself? [s E L Paolini] Absolutely. 507.00 a month for two. Guest guest
My husband lost his job so we had a choice of cobra any paying $950 a month for it. Well, I found a plan through State Farm/Fortis that is only $200 a month, large deductbible, but I'm covered for any catastrophic problems. It is only a short term, six month deal that I can have this plan, but hopefully he will have a new employer by then.
