Hi Everyone,

Allergic sensitivity to heat and water, with

accompanying itchy skin, have been some of my most

constant and severe symptoms. I can't say if that is

what some of you are experiencing but I will give the

rundown of what I learned in case it is useful.

When I am having mercury trouble I will develop

urticaria (small raised itchy lumps) and generalized

redness and itchiness after bathing in hot water, on

hot days, and after exertion. This can be extreme and

usually goes away pretty quickly. Filtered shower

water will also cause these urticaria, but cold water

will not, so in my case it seems to be heat that is

the principle cause, not chlorine. This is pretty

common. When I am super allergic filtered water alone

will cause a reaction (so-alled aquagenic urticaria).

Urticaria are a mild manifestation of anaphylaxis with

the same causes (excessive histimines). When I was

really sick with mercury I would have anaphylactic

attacks which would come on very quickly with a

stuffed up nose, bright red flushing and itchiness,

followed by a plunge in blood pressure and

tachycardia. Each attack is considered dangerous,

with a 1-2% fatality rate. Mastocytosis is a disease

of unknown cause which is associated with frequent

anaphylaxis, although it is considered to be an

" abnormal response to an unknown stimulus " . Many

people with Mastocytosis complain of Candida

infection, digestive problems, multiple sclerosis and

adrenal suppresion (hmm, can't imagine what the

unknown stimulus might be?). For a while it looked

like I might be developing Masto, as I was having 4-6

anaphylactic attacks per month. About 10% of Masto

cases are fatal within a year.

Taking antihistimes (Zyrtec 25mg) suppresses these

symptoms and I take this regularly. I can cut the

dose almost to nothing before the itchiness and

urticaria drive me back on the stuff. It causes

weight gain so I would like to get off it.

I never had these symptoms before I became sick a

couple years ago. I have had lots of anaphylactic

attacks with no identifiable trigger (despite tracking

all my food and exposures and eliminating whole

classes of foods such as sulfur, salicylates, amines

for months at a time). 2 of my 6-7 attacks were

likely related to mercury exposure - once occurred

when I was having one of the unprotected filing

removals which made me sick, and once when I attempted

to chelate with EDTA (NEITHER is recommended). I had

all these symptoms even when I was taking

antihistimines.

When I was really sick I was having urticaria all the

time when I bathed, plus anaphylaxis every now and

then. After amalgam removal ALL of my urticaria

dissapeared ENTIRELY for 4-5 months along with the

anaphylaxis and all my other symptoms (a very long

list indeed). I completely recovered from being

gravely ill during this time and was out there rock

climbing and doing rocket science calculations in my

head. Now I am just past the six month mark and I

have some very mild urticaria every now and then along

with some mild symptoms. The only thing I could never

do is get completely off the anti-histimines. I was

almost completely off but as I got close to the six

month mark I had to start them up again.

So in my opinion Mastocytosis is quite likely to be

caused by an allergic sensitivity to Mercury, or

possibly to other allergens as a result of Mercury

toxicity. Urticaria are a milder form of this and

also possibly a reaction to Mercury itself.

I'm beginning chelation tomorrow and am naturally

worried that the chelator (DMSA 6mg every 3 hours)

will cause anaphylaxis, which could keep me from

chelating. Wish me luck! I looked long and hard on

this board for another Mastocytosis sufferer who was

sure it was caused by Mercury, so I hope my story

helps someone.

All the best to all my helpers and friends,

Dave
