Guest guest
Hi Grace, Serum potassium doesn't usually rise in thyroid storm. It's more likely to be low (hypokalemia). Hyperkalemia or high potassium usually is related to other meds or metabolic changes, including kidney problems. High potassium does cause cardiac problems though and symptoms similar to those that occur in thyroid storm. Take care, Elaine
Guest guest
Grace, I've just picked this up and not really read the rest of the thread. What you describe briefly sounds like a kidney problem. The cause of the kidney problem would be the condition you want to question. With hope for her rapid recovery, Laurel potassium? thyroid storm? > my mother, who has Graves, was taken to ICU last night.. a huge rise > in potassium levels.. she has been in hospital about 10 days already > after so im wondering why this would rise so suddenly.. ive been told > it causes heart irregularities and arrest.. does anyone know if this > is a sign of thyroid storm? > Grace.. > oh, ill be watching this for the next few hrs while i try to get a > plane ticket.. after that ill be gone dont know how long, so please > dont be offended if i miss replying, hugs and love to all > Grace > > > > ------------------------------------- > The Graves' list is intended for informational purposes only and is not intended to replace expert medical care. > Please consult your doctor before changing or trying new treatments. > ---------------------------------------- > DISCLAIMER > > Advertisments placed on this yahoo groups list do not have the endorsement of > the listowner.
