Hi Grace,

Serum potassium doesn't usually rise in thyroid storm. It's more likely to be

low (hypokalemia).

Hyperkalemia or high potassium usually is related to other meds or metabolic

changes, including kidney problems. High potassium does cause cardiac

problems though and symptoms similar to those that occur in thyroid storm.

I've just picked this up and not really read the rest of the thread. What

you describe briefly sounds like a kidney problem. The cause of the kidney

problem would be the condition you want to question.
