I definitely can't tolerate iron though I'm always very low ferritin. ----------Alessa, I can't remember if we have discussed this before, so forgive me if I'm beating an old horse But my ferritin was *very* low almost 3 years ago. It was only 4 ! , and Andy recommends between 30-70. Others recommend higher, but Andy says its better for toxic people to stay on the low end of normal. If anyone has HTI, read what he says about iron on pages 128-129 and 254-255. Because of oxidative stress caused by mercury and other metals, your body keeps your iron low to help reduce this and protect itself. Anyway, in this situation, Andy says supplementing iron can make you feel worse. So in this case it is better not to. But, he says you can help your body by taking lots of antioxidants, like Vit C. This will reduce the oxidative stress and your ferritin may naturally start to rise. Everything Andy said about iron and being toxic happened to me. Before I knew I was toxic, I was told I was anemic, and was give ferrous sulfate (iron pills), and I couldn't tolerate them, they made me sick. So then they gave me ferrous gluconate, which I did tolerate better, and probably took less. I don't remember exactly, but these were higher mg pills. This brought my hemoglobin up, but they never checked my ferritin back then. Anyway, a year or so later when I did have my ferritin checked, it was only 4, so I'm sure my body dumped the extra iron I had taken before. Anyway, after finding out I was toxic and reading HTI and having a test done that said I had high oxidative stress, I started taking lots of Vit C, and only low doses of iron, and this did raise it to 12. Then when I seen a year ago, she had me start taking Jarrow IronSorb, a highly absorbable form of iron, and said to take it with meals with *plenty of Betaine HCl* and Vit C for better absorption. Anyway, in like 9 months of doing this, my ferritin went up to 51. So I think with enough antioxidants and the right form of iron and stomach acid, it is possible to raise your ferritin, when your body is ready and can do so. I have also gone thru spells of craving red meat, so I know that was a signal that my body was looking for iron now. Anyway, that's my iron story. So if you still can't tolerate iron, I would up your antioxidants and maybe try the IronSorb.-----------Jackie I've also had trouble tolerating various hormones. Even small amounts of testosterone make me super angry even though my testerone is low. When I tried to go on progesterone, I got an ovarian cyst and wound up in emergency, and DHEA and pregnenalone made me very dopey and tired. I'm recently trying DHEA cream at 1/2 dose and have been able to tolerate it so far. Could be because my liver is in better shape now. ------------I don't know much about this, since I tolerate the hormones I take just fine, and you may have gone over this already, but it looks like those hormones are processed by the liver phase 2 Sulfation pathway. Didn't you have the Comp. Liver Detox Panel done? Are you low plasma sulfate? Have you done things to raise your sulfate level? And were you fast phase 1? That could cause a problem also. Just throwing out some ideas.-----------Jackie I'm also trying ACE and upped my intake of milk thistle. -------------Those should both be good, as long as you tolerate them, especially the milk thistle for your liver problems. And I am liking ACE alot now.-----------Jackie I also just finished a long round (7 days) of DMSA 25mg. So far so good. After a good night sleep (which I hardly ever get), I woke up feeling energetic and downright hopeful. ------------That's great Alessa! Just keep plugging away at chelation.--------Jackie I have a job interview tomorrow and will have to be careful about the stress level. If I have to leave the job - well, so be it. My plan is to up my Cortef (I'm on 10mg now) and ACE if I feel myself slipping and see if that works. ---------------I hope it works out for you, and yes you have to watch the stress level, but it helps to be aware of it. I think I am finally starting to learn better what I can and cannot handle, and avoid stress whenever possible. My adrenals will never heal if I keep beating them up!----------Jackie And I know I can get warm and fuzzy at the end of my emails but I do have to say thanks again. This group has so many intelligent, knowledgeable, giving and kind people on it. You have saved my life. :^) Alessa --------------Nothing wrong with warm and fuzzy And yes there are alot of great people here, and you're one of them Take care Alessa, and keep us posted. Always good to hear from you-------------Jackie PS Did anyone see on PBS yesterday? http://www.brendawatson.com/ " Those who think they're too small to make a difference have never been in bed with a mosquito. Guest guest
Hi Jackie, Thanks for the reminder about Vitamin C and the recommendation on IronSorb. I have stayed away from Vitamin C because it bothers my stomache so much but I'm going to add a low dose and see if it helps. I know grapefruit juice and fresh vegetable juice (beet, carrot, parseley, cucumber) have helped. After 4 years of chelating (3 of those with Cutler protocol) and treating leaky gut, all my food reactions have come down and my digestion has gotten much better. I do have liver problems and had the Genova test but couldn't understand the results. I have it as a PDF file, do you think you could make sense of it? The language my doctor used when the results came in is different than what is used here and I get lost in the translation, as with so many things, lol! I'm going on almost two weeks of feeling really good and this is what changed: 7 day round of DMSA at 25mg added ACE (50mg only) added iodine (one drop) added DHEA cream at .5 mg/day Something else that's nice besides having energy and being able to think more clearly is that my sleep pattern has gone back to the way it was before I got sick. I used to go to sleep around 10pm and wake at 6am regularly. I've always been more of a morning person and it's so nice to have that back - especially in time for the beautiful spring weather we're having. Our conversation was getting long so I didn't copy it to this email. I hope that's alright. And thanks again, SO much. :^) Alessa I ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile.
