It is by Rx only in the US----Jackie I am 135 pounds. I see some places say to take 1/4 my weight in milligrams, so 30-ish mg every 8 hours?? ----------I think 1/8 to 1/2 mg/lb is the general guidelines, but many of us even start lower than that. 1/8 would be more like 16-17mg. Personally, DMPS felt a little stronger to me than DMSA, so when I switched to DMPS, I had to lower my dose. I believe said they felt about the same to her, so equivalent dose for each chelator. So depending on how you felt on 12.5mg of DMSA, if that dose was good for you, then I would suggest a fairly similar dose of DMPS, like 10 to 15mg. 30 might be way too high to start out with.---------Jackie Others say take 5-10mg every 8 hours? That's a big difference. ---------Everybody is different and tolerate different amounts when starting out. This seems to vary quite a bit, and the 1/8 to 1/2 mg/lb is just a rough guideline. Some people do have to start out at really low doses like 5 mg. So it is very individual, and it just takes some trial and error to find out the best dose for you. So our general guideline has been to tell people to start at 12.5mg, and adjust the dose up or down from there, depending on how they feel.-----------Jackie Which is right? -----------As I explained, this is not a one size fits all type of thing, and the amount of chelator tolerated to start out with varies widely by person. So the right amount is whatever amount you can tolerate or makes you feel the best.--------Jackie What pharmacy do folks recommend? --------I get mine from The Falls Pharmacy.----------Jackie Any particular brand of DMPS? Heyl? ------------I have no idea what brand my pharmacy uses.-------Jackie thank you!
