(for your information I have actually just purchased my first cloth

nappy but not yet had the nerve to put it on dd1 LOL)<<

I actually bought one for ph to wear just at night (he is dry

during the day). Put him to bed but he wouldn't go to sleep. An hour

later (he was just playing in his bed and reading) I went to tuck him

in again and he was soaking! pjs wet, nappy wet, bed wet! I'm afraid

said cloth nappy came off and on with disposable. Well I

tried............

Lorraine re your soaking wet nappy, just wondered if you'd tried these points?

Washing the nappy at least three times without softener before using it?

Had suitable boosting - if he was wet after 1 hour of wearing it probably not?

Was all the nappy tucked into the wrap with no bits showing?

Just some points that might help if you wanted to try again ;-)

Yep washed it three times before using - no softener

Had put a booster pad in

> Was all the nappy tucked into the wrap with no bits showing?

The nappy didn't have a wrap, it was sort of all in one with the

waterproof on the outside and cloth inside. Should I have used a wrap

as well? The nappy was extremely wet at the front but practically dry

at the back. Maybe not tight enough? I tried to do it tight with the

velcro but difficult to get it as tight as with a disposable. I

bought it from Boots - cost £7.00. Maybe not a very good make? I

really would like to get to grips with it. I know I am coming in a

little late here having had 4 kids all in disposables but if I could

have my time again and knowing what I know now then I would definitely

have tried cloth nappies. So I really would like to succeed now. He

shows no signs of being dry at night at all so I could have at least

another year of night nappies so would love to be able to use cloth

ones.

I haven't actually used these, but I think they are fairly similar to

Kooshies Ultra, which seem to be a make people either love or loathe! I

used Kooshies for dd1 for about 6 months when she was partly potty

trained (basically dry, but insisted on a nappy for poos), and didn't

really like them at all. When she did wee in them I never found them

particularly absorbent - I *think* you need to put several boosters in

if you want them to cope overnight. From what you say, I suspect your ds

weed out of it somewhere, rather than the waterproofing failing.

I'm not sure what to recommend as my dd2 isn't that old yet, and is

still in nappies full time. My favourite ATM is some kind of velcro

fastening shaped nappy with an Air Rika cover during the day, and at

night I usually use fuzzibuns (a sort of fleece pouch that you stuff

with enough padding (a prefold and a thick booster in our case) to

absorb all the wee - the fleece wicks the dampness away from their

skin).

If you want more advice, the best place is probably the cloth nappies

forum on the ukparents site, or you can try the Cloth-Nappies

yahoogroup. The former has links to several UK nappy sellers at the top

of the page, so you can see what is available!

Me again Lorraine

Your nappy sounds like a Boots own Kooshies all of one sort of thing, styling is

very similar to a disposable, and no you don't need a wrap on top.

And yes you guessed it there not the most absorbent, really only suitable for

very light wetters, as for the boosting are we talking a little booster i.e..

quite thin flannelette or bigger towelling/flannelette booster? - I suspect it's

a combination of a not very absorbent nappy and inadequate boosting, which could

be rectified by:

1. Buying a different sort of nappy!

2. Boosting more - perhaps with a tiny terry/half a terry or a couple of

flannels if you don't want any more expense.

You shouldn't need to be doing it up too tightly and if it seems to loose of too

tight, then perhaps its the wrong size, the sizing range on nappies can be so

variable, depending on the shape of your tot.

If I can provide any more info, give a holler!

Definitely not a good make, IMHO!! I've had several customers who've had

similar problems to the one you describe - it seems that either it's v.

difficult to get the fabric rolled properly inwards round legs/waist, or it

simply can't contain a strong jet of wee (and if your son is only wearing a

nappy at night, I bet he is holding his bladder for a while and releasing a

fair amount at a time - sorry to be graphic!) I would try a two part

system, with additional booster - lots of absorbency and two lines of

defence! Popo ultrafit is good and comes with its own booster, and works

well with several wraps - please feel free to email if you want more

specific advice.

I sell nappies and I would always hesitate to recommend Kooshie type nappies

for night time use (some of my customers use a disposable at night rather

than cope with the wet bed ! ) Boosting this type of nappy can be rather

difficult as the crotch area is quite narrow compared to other nappies, so

it is difficult to stop the booster sticking out at the edges.

I use a Motherease shaped terry with a pre fold to boost it, a fleece liner

to keep little BTM dry and Air Rika wrap. Very rarely leaks !

Afraid that is probably it then. Unfortunately what you can get in

the usual shops is not the best and it is so frustrating seeing

people being put off - as anyone would be by your experience.

Toys R Us are selling Bambino Mio prefolds and wraps now - but even

then the wraps are not without their problems (I get on with them,

others don't) NCT Maternity Sales sell prefolds with a better if

boring :-))) (sorry I am a terrible nappy snob!) white wrap. (Though

they don't sell a sample pack and you aren't going to want to be

buying six I wouldn't think)

The small sellers really do provide a better service on the whole (I

have unfortunately encountered one or two who do seem more interested

in their own profit than providing you with the right nappy set up

for you and your child without breaking the bank, but they are the

exception) Boots used to sell Earthwise one size nappies and wraps (I

got a couple and a wrap that way) and those were good.

I try to advise people as to what works best and what is the most

affordable,

it is a labour of love really, I like to see other peoples babies and like

chatting.

I work on commission and find that I don't really make any noticable profit.

I find it a great way to meet people and always try to be available to

people who ring for advice, whether they are customers or not.

If the profit was important to me I would not be doing this, I just like it.

Sorry but still a little hurt at Lesley's suggestion that I am trying to

'spam' you all.
