RE the found mercury thermometer, I would keep it and prize it. Yes, if

it is broken it could be toxic to whatever it encounters, but mercury

thermometers are much more accurate thermometers than anything else I

have used.

I use mine only in my bedroom (that has carpeting) and I am very

careful about shaking it down in firmly gripped fingers.
