gosh..seem to have ruffled some feathers here!

I know quorn is low fat etc on its own, but I was referring to the microwaved

ready meal version :-)...and yes, veggies need more protein, but not a camembert

wheel at every meal ;-)....

As for research saying veggies are healthier..this could be due to loads of

social factors, not just lack of meat.....our teeth suggest we are natural meat

eaters and we have the enzymes available to break it down...surely we should

accept it as personal choice and leave it at that..anyway, I'm sure the

radiation from our computers would negate any health benefits ;-)

life would be so dull if we were all perfect :-)

My feathers aren't ruffled - for me, and by extension for now my

children it is an ethical thing, rather than a health thing, DH is

definitely carnivorous and I buy it and cook it for him (I was raised

on hearts, scrag end, liver, kidneys and loved them - well maybe not

the scrag end, dreadful thing for a child to manage) - and a lot of

vegetarians and all vegans object to Quorn in any form (contains egg

white (free range now) and was tested on animals) Just didn't want

anyone to think that Quorn per se was bracketed with high fat foods.

Exactly my point (well, not the radiation :-)) - now that vegetarian

convenience food abounds and vegetarianism is much more

heterogeneous, vegetarians who eat a diet which essential mimics a

meat eating one may not show the lower rates of bowel cancer, heart

disease, stroke etc that previous generations of vegetarians have

done (this is what the EPIC study is intended to determine - my hunch

is that it will not be that meat is bad). Let's not quibble too much

though - smoking is related to social factors but that doesn't mean

it's irrelevant. The brain has morphine specific receptors but it

doesn't mean we ought to be using it regularly!

Lesley, will try to find some references for you. The vegetarianism

prevents AIDS things sounds like a typical net thing! (Suppose a

strong immune system has got to help, but...)
