Could his bed be a tropical island? Then the carpet becomes sea. You could

perhaps cut a big tree out of chipboard or MDF or something to put on the

corner posts, with ropes trailing down which could be creepers or, more

practically, the guard rail for the ladder of the bed. You could also drape

creepers across the ceiling by hammering nails through bits of rope to make

loops (could be v. effective and out of reach). You could even wind ivy

round old tights or something to make them into ceiling creepers...

HTH - but I suspect I'm suffering from sleep deprivation!

Just a warning not to use ropes/tights etc where he could grt his head stuck

through like a noose. I am sure you don't need warning, but the combination of

bunk beds and ropes makes my blood go cold.

Yes, sorry - that's what I meant by out of reach! If you were using them

for guard rails you'd have to fix them firmly at each end, so they were

taught enough to be unloop-able.

He really wants a jungle theme.

We have just decorated DS2's room - well partly, as i still have

my bookcases in there. His is jungle colours. I found a green silk

lightshade in homebase that was the right sort of green. I

painted the bottom 2/3rds of the walls in a mossy green and

then the top part a sky blue, and then painted leaves where the

two colours meet. I found some safari animal stickarounds and

put them around and made a blind from a leopard print fabric,

and made a tie-back out of rough string - so it looks vagely

tropical. Found a lamp in that is shaped like a

toucan (but £29!!) . I am looking for jungly duvet covers but

haven't managed it so far.

The result is that he still won't sleep in there and creeps back

into DS1's room every night (which is a space bedroom

complete with Rocket painted on one wall etc)..so I am toying

with repainting his room and making it a spare room :((

See earlier reply, no he's not sail powered, he's on huge Landing

Ship (the sort that can land troops on the beach), no, not heard of

Lee

Tab-top curtains are quite handy to hang from a loft bed - to make a

'theatre' when friends are round, or a 'private area' when changing, in

case nosey mums barge in...

Dont often get a chance to read coffee messages lately but dipped in this

weekend when I spotted the jungle theme thread - by coincidence we've just

decorated our 6 year old's [boy] bedroom in this way - he actually wanted a

'parrot' room but drew a blank with rainforest/parrot decorations. Finally

found a wonderful frieze from www.friezeframe.com - they do all sorts

[undersea, railway etc] including a jungle theme - cost £35 for a 12ft

[approx] frieze which comprised six large sheets of assorted borders etc -

including a large coconut tree and a bamboo frieze behind which we have a

tiger lurking - other animals too - giraffe, monkeys, zebras and a few small

parrots and butterflies - fiddly job because they are not stickers - need

pasting but worth it - looks brilliant, especially as his room is fairly

small. Painted the lower half of his walls green, upper a desert yellow and

sky blue with clouds. Very adventurous for us but after a few days doesn't

look at all outrageous!

Just had a look at this site - there are some lovely ideas on their

photos page. I can almost feel the temptation to start decorating

DS1's room. It was the study before he moved into it. So he had a

green/burgundy roman blind, Fleur de Ly (sp?) stencilled in the room,

and white walls which have some paint damage! as well as on old blue

carpet with some kind of splodges on it which was here when we moved

in. (Sounds just wonderful when I start to describe it but it does

not look as bad as it sounds!)

I just don't know whether I would be decorating it and wasting my

time as he will be 8 in September and will he outgrow the themes?

Football seems to becoming a pasion! Can't imagine me having a

football themed room.
