I am on the look out for a x-stitch to do with a footballer theme - for

a sampler for my great-nephew - anyone got any ideas? It doesn`t have to

be presented as a sampler, I can work some bits around it if necessary,

and do in a larger piece. Ideally I was thinking of a country companions

one - I have seen b/day cads with Ed the hedgehog dressed as a

footballer, I think .

Isn't CC a DMC thing? I think they have their own site - or the

dreaded Willow Fabrics do them - or Tandem Cottage? I'll do a

search and let you know off list.

Caroline

(who does x/s and Tapestry - but hasn't picked up a needle for a

month - and keeps selling me all these nice charts......)

If you had the right scanner etc you could get hold of one of those

CD Roms that convert your photos/pictures into charts - we are

thinking of investing in this sort of stuff to turn more of our

photos into tapestries. DH did one that I sent a photo off for, but

I think you might run into copyright problems if you tried to send

off a birthday card picture.

I'm interested in this as I design my own tapestries on the computer but

purely on a translating a pic into a graph basis ... tedious!!

Could you tell me more about the sorts of software you referred to (and if

you're looking at them let me know if any are suitable for Macs), prices

etc. and what did you mean when you said:

TIA.

I have a Mac program that was very reasonable - just haven't had

time to play with it yet (bought it at Olympia in April)

It is by Ursa Software and was £35:

(they are a UK company)

(and other computor outlets most likely).

I bought a send away kit, called Stitch-A-Photo from a local craft

shop. I found a photograph and sent it in the enclosed envelope and

the chart came back within a few days. The chart was done in a huge

variety of symbols and each symbol was given a thread colour number.

I had to go and buy all the individual threads, it cost about £40 for

them all (initial cost of Stitch-A-Photo pack was £15) and I gave it

to my DH for his birthday. I also had to buy the Aida but it wasn't

expensive. The result is a wonderful heirloom for our son to have in

his house one day...
