Mr. Jack

Small world, 1976 Wichita Kansas, Airman 1st class (E2) Married with one child bringing home $212.00 ever two weeks, rent was $300.00 for a 10x60 trailer in tornado ally Nice for a northwest boy, before I went to Kansas the closest I had been to a tornado was watching the wizard of oz. and I too have a full set of Brtitanicas no book case but I did later that year get a hover vacuum it could sand the floor and I think take out the trash. Good times.

Walt, among your ads, the one for the Encychopedia Brittanica tickled my memory. I was just 18, living alone for the first time, when a Brtitanica salesman came by. I love books and was hoping to build a library. So he talked me into buying the set for so much a month for two years. Only later, after he left, I realized that I could not afford them. My pay as an Air Force private was only $30.00 a month. I called him and asked that he cancel the order and pick up the books.

He came.. What a salesman. He sold me a bookcase to hold the Britannica for $25.00.

I still have the damn things sitting in that attic.

Mr. Walt, I think my E2 husband and I rented that same trailer at Rantoul AB in Illinois, but I could have sworn we got $286. Oh wait that was after he made E3 and we ended up at Warner Robbins in Ga, oh I remember those days. Our first new car was a Toyota SR5 for 3200 and the credit union would only loan us 2800. 1969 Boise Idaho, bruce was an army captain, don't remember how much he took home, or how much anything cost, we had a Toyota too, it cost us $25.00 when Shelby was born, military paid for the rest, used to drive down to Mountain Home airforce base to use the commissary and px, it was about a one hour drive

we felt "rich" then, compared to 1966 - 1969 when Bruce was a med student and an intern, those were the days when interns made very little money, you needed a microscope to see it LOL
