Guest guest
Hi everybody, Just thought I'd mention this since it's all over the news and it is so frightening for everyone but especially for those like us with compromised respiratory systems. From what I've gathered what we know is that this is a new strain of flu from which no one has immunity. So far there has not been serious illness in the US from this flu but it's very very early yet. It is being spread from person to person, not from contact with animals. The precautions to take are the things that all of us already do. Wash your hands frequently, stay away from those with obvious illness. Right now it might not be a bad idea to stay away from large gatherings. For those of us (like me) who are on immune suppressants all those things go double. If you begin to feel ill, run a fever etc, don't take chances. Get to the doctor. There are two anti-viral drugs (Tamiflu and Relenza) that they say are effective against the virus but you have to take them early in the course of the illness, the first 48 hours or so. So don't waste time, call the doctor. Anyone else have any ideas to help us all through this?
