Ruthie, so glad you took the time to email us - I've been worrying!

But your tale of the handbag made me smile as it reminded me of a girly

night out about 10 yrs ago when a friend told us about her disastrous

holiday (started with car problems leaving London for Portsmouth and the

ferry, car problems continued till southern France, and ended with the car

being broken into and all their belongings stolen in Pamplona - and it was a

3 week holiday and she'd taken loads and loads of clothes with her and the

repairs to the car took some while and and and...) and as we finished the

wine and got up to go from the wine bar to the restaurant she realised that

her handbag had been stolen! The policeman we reported it to was kind of

teasing her, saying " there MUST have been more than that in it, all women

carry more than that in their handbags! " She smiled wanly and said " Well, I

did, but I haven't got round to replacing it all yet... " We bought her

dinner and another VERY big drink!!!

Anneliese and Toddler Tim who had his first kosher chicken nuggets

yesterday.

Letter from Jerusalem... Thursday.

Well, in case anyone has heard the news, there was a suicide bomber

in Jerusalem at lunchtime today; he blew himself and 3 Israelis up,

and injured dozens more, in Spiro Pizza restaurant which Tavya and

Dov have frequented in the past. In fact they were going to go to

that exact same area of central Jerusalem this afternoon; there is a

library opposite; but Dov's Dad phoned from UK and told him the news

before he heard it himself. The whole of that part of central

Jerusalem is closed off; apparently they found and defused a second

device in the same restaurant.

It's very scary cos DH was not 100 yds from there this morning, much

earlier on though. He went to see a lawyer we use here about getting

us a parking permit for our rented car. As we live centrally, we are

in a controlled parking area and can't park outside our own house

without a permit, which is almost impossible to get on a rented car.

Anyhow, we got one, for this trip only; we'll need to reapply each

time we come; PITA but beats getting tickets all the time.

The bomb has sobered us. Like an omen, Zehava's handbag has gone

missing, it had, as most handbags do, her entire life inside it.

Driving licence, credit and debit cards, and expensive

birthday-present camera, pics of all her friends, store loyalty cards

(the Boots one is the hardest to replace, takes ages!). We have

searched and searched, phoned the restaurant where we ate last night

(who were really brusque and didn't even offer to take our number in

case it shows up), but have now reluctantly phoned to cancel the

cards. Maybe the loss of her handbag is God's way of telling us

" Look, don't complain; it could have been worse. You could have

been at Spiros Pizza for lunch today " .
