Guest guest
Does anyone get headaches when they don't get enough quality sleep? I get neck pain and a pressing headpain when this happens on the following day. I was wondering if there were any ways to alleviate it, other than aspirin. It's hard to break the cycle because once the pain starts, because it's harder to get quality sleep the following night. I wonder if it is related to being hypothyroid but I am probably wrong on that. Jay

My docotor gave me Tamazapam for a fortnight and then a found a preparation with Valerian worked quite well. Also St JOhns Wort helps
Guest guest
Jay. I have serious migraines that develop whenever I overexert myself. It could be lack of sleep or in other ways overdoing it. As I mentioned in a just-previous post about sauna, I find that taking a lot of electrolytes really really helps. If you onibasu Andy's posts on electrolytes you'll find his formula. As he says, anyone with adrenals problems will be adequately messed up if they don't replace electrolytes. This is what I use: 1tsp Calcium ascorbate 1tsp Magnesium ascorbate 1/2tsp Sodium Chloride (table salt - make sure it's sea salt, that morton stuff is crap!) 1/4tsp Baking Soda 1/8tsp Potassium Chloride ( " lite salt " - Now foods has a version) I mix that into a quart jar, 3/4 filled with water and 1/4 filled with a sweet juice. The juice helps not just with taste, but with the osmolality, so that you don't get stomach upset. Careful on the potassium chloride. Never more than 1/2tsp a day (actually, I think Andy says 1tsp, but you should check) as overdose can lead to serious heart arrhythmias. If that causes any bowel looseness (both the magnesium and the ascorbate can have a laxative effect) then I increase the calcium ascorbate and decrease the magnesium; or, decrease the ascorbate dose altogether. Andy uses epsom salts for the magnesium and sulfate. I'm high in sulfate, so I don't want that, and found I needed more calcium. Also, I can take a _lot_ of ascorbate. So, I modified the formula. Also note that at the beginning, I found I needed much more salt (sodium chloride). I believe Andy's formula has 1tsp salt. In the space of a few days or a week, I found I wanted to decrease it. Sometimes I take that as an emergency dose - whole quart at a time, if I am just walking in the house with a bad headache. Also, I can't really describe it here, but there are ways that I've learned from yoga to use a strip of cloth to wrap the head in such a way to relieve tension, which tends to come for me at the temples or at the base of the skull in the back. You basically put a slight twist in the cloth, so it puts a very slight increased pressure at the point of pain. You also wrap the cloth with a slightly increased pressure on the tight side of the head. Maybe you could find a decent yoga teacher in your area? I'll mention, by the way, that without yoga, I could never have survived FM. I only realized I had it because I got sick for a period and couldn't do yoga for a while. Then I realized what hell it could be. I soon discovered that the electrolytes helped, particularly the calcium. (I know Andy says to take magnesium, but that did not much. I think it was the Mg/Ca balance that was off for me.) Dave.
