Guest guest
> <<> Have your DH's name engraved next to wedding date and your name on his.>> > This is common practice in Denmark and I always felt slightly weird about the fact that ours don't have the name/date engraved. Also in Denmark you don't use a engagement ring and a wedding band. What happens is that when you get engaged you get what we here would look upon as a wedding band then have it engraved with name and date and then wear it on your left hand, then when you marry you have it engraved with the date of the marriage and then wear it on your right hand.. My girl friends in Denmark think it is very weird that I wear my bands English style but they both love the idea of a " proper " engagement ring (needless to say I plumped for the English version as you get 2 rings that way LOL) > > > Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama -------------------------------- The Greeks & Cypriots do this too - wedding band on left hand when engaged; moved to right hand when married. I wear my wedding band on left hand; DH on right hand (confused the priest at the wedding!!!) The Greek Orthodox wedding service has as it's first bit an 'engagement' part and then the marriage part. Some couples have an engagement service in church when they get engaged and when they get married do the remaining service. I think this may be more common in Cyprus - Sue H, do you know? I don't have an engagement ring. When we announced our marriage so many people asked 'when did he ask or when did it happen'.... we never asked each other, just decided now was the time. I guess I just don't like the term 'being engaged' - don't know why, one of those things. We'd been together for 8 years so really felt, for the few months before the wedding, it seemed silly (to me) to suddenly say 'we're engaged'. It's just the term i don't like. I didn't have a burning desire for a solitaire ring. I was given a ring earlier, much plainer and more meaningful to me. This is not to say I wouldn't like a ring with stones of some sort !!! It also used to annoy me when I was much younger and wore a ring with turquoise centre on my ring finger (which my mother gave me), I was constantly asked if I was engaged - I didn't even have a boyfriend at the time! Surely your ring finger is for other than engagement/wedding rings?? ooops - didn't mean to go on about it! Janet Athens
