I went to pick up my prednisone script and according to the pharmacist my primary wants to see me before he renews it again. I have been on 10mg a day for 3 years and now nothing. I just saw my primary on Tuesday which was the day before I turned my refill in. He forgot that he had just seen me for some seriously bad stuff just the day before. Why would he take me off the prednisone like that. I know that I am not on a high dose but I am wondering if there are side effects from being on steroids for such a long time then suddenly nothing. I know my hips, neck, shoulders, hands, feet; okay everywhere is starting to really hurt. It is in my chart that we tried a step down once and I was just too miserable without the pred. Doctors should be forced to take calls on the weekend. Mine doesn't even have a cover doc just the ER. I started getting a really nasty bumpy red itchy rash yesterday. Does anyone no if this could be from suddenly going off the steroids? Why do I get all the Alzheimer's doctors? I know they must all have it because they can see me 3 times in the same week and not remember who I am or what my problems are. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, I want my prednisone back NOW. I guess it's hot baths (that just does wonderful things for my Sjogrens) for me until I get this straightened out. Everyone pray that it is on Monday.

Sunny,

If you've been on prednisone for 3 years there is no way you should just suddenly stop taking it. If your doctor just saw you on Tuesday I don't understand why he wants to see you before refilling your prescription. It just does not make sense.

But if you are in pain and now have a rash both symptoms could be related to stopping the prednisone suddenly. There are also other much more serious side effects. Your body has stopped making cortisol because you've been on the prednisone. It takes time and sometimes coaxing to get it to start up again.

If you cannot get in touch with your own physician today, you might consider taking your prescription bottle and heading to the ER or at the very least to an "urgent care" walk in type place.
