Long term ATD use -- rare danger

Hi, everybody.

There is a lady, whom I believe belongs to this group as well as

AtomicWomen, who has just been released from the hospital. Last

week, she developed embolisms in both lungs. Her doctor believes

that this is a result of long term PTU use.

She will elaborate on this if she chooses, but I feel that it is the

responsible thing for me to do to report this, as we have often

discussed the long term use of ATDs to avoid RAI.

Elaine and I have both searched the literature on this, and she has

found some references which may support the doctor's assessment of

the situation.

I am by no means suggesting that anyone on long term ATDs should be

fearful of what is likely to be an extremely rare occurrance, but

that anyone on this regime be very observant of physical symptoms and

address them in a timely manner, because these drugs are potent.
