Guest guest
Dear Sandy, The phenazopyridine is a great pain killer for urinary tract infections and as far as I know its worst effect is to stain your toilet! If the infection is caused by bacteria, you'll probably need an antibiotic to cure it. It's good to get a urine culture to make sure bacteria is the cause. Most of the many ones I've had were in the category of urethritis, meaning they found no bacteria and the irritation was being caused by something else. For those, antibiotics won't work and cranberry juice is a good idea. To avoid the sugar in commercial stuff you can get cranberry caps in any vitamin dept.--I got my last bottle at the Rite Aid drug store. Good luck--you need to get it checked out to avoid a more serious infection to your kidneys, yet may well find it's not bacterial, just hurts like hell.
