Guest guest
Ruth - how do you find it helps? a little detail would be helpful, tho not as much as you'd be too embarrassed to post! When I first read that book I decided that I must really be a man (shame about the female body!!!) as I seemed to fit more into his categories of mind of men (and mapreading!, direction giving etc)....which irritated me so I didn't persist with it. I thought that if he's going to be so narrow in his definitions I couldn't see how it would help. " Mr " Heyworth Suppose I should call myself Carl from now on! Yes, I often find that with that kind of book - and I don't think anyone in 'real life' would describe me as someone who behaves like a man. Much more noticeably though, I have found that the men in my life - family, friends - have not fitted either. In fact it used to be quite a problem to me at my more women's/girls magazine reading years - there they'd be telling me that men have trouble expressing emotion and don't cry and I was awash with males emoting all over the place (not that I am immune from emoting myself, though oddly I don't seem to cry as much since I had babies) Oddly enough the two men who do fit the Martian thing best are my DH and one of my best friends from university who is gay - and they share a birthday, so... I always had the feeling about the Mars/Venus theory that the real message was for women to let men do their thing and not much about men accommodating to women in any real sense. And then the other day, I picked up the book on surrendered wives and lo and behold, there's a favourable review on the back from Gray. -- jennifer@...
