My friend's dad died of asbestosis after working as a lineman for the telephone company for years. She was told by doctors at the time that because of the asbestos in his clothes that just by being in the same house she would probably eventually show signs of the disease. Pulmonary fibrosis was never mentioned, though.

my sister died of mesothelioma which is an asbestosis cancer of

the lining of the lung. my dad died of a small cell lung

cancer which is related to asbestosis too.

my doctors told me that my pf was not caused by asbestos as i

do not have any pleural plaques. these plaques seem to be the

indicators. if you ask if you have these, then 2 and 2 might

make 4.

hope this helps.

Thank you for the info. Maybe I am being silly but I feel better knowing that

that could be the reason I have this disease. No know cause bothers me. Beverley

i'm in the uk. when pauline passed, we had specialist

lawyers check all her places of work and we couldn't

pinpoint anywhere. asbestos is in every public building

here in the uk and it only needs one thread to lodge

so we were advised not to waste our money chasing

compensation and her children were awarded cash from the

government. we took all our advice from 'clyde action

on asbestos' so we are happy we did the right thing.

there was talk about the laundering of my dads overalls

from the shipyards but again 8yrs ago, costly to try and

prove, never mind my poor mother's reaction. she felt

she was being accused of giving this to her daughter.

thanks for the suggestion though.

Bev...try piercing a vitamin E capsule and putting on your nails. Sure can't hurt you and works wonders! Many years ago I wore acrylic nails and my nails were in awful shape for more than a year until I was told about VE....

I have thought about it but I decided that it would probably be a bad idea. I have a slight thyroid problem so maybe it is just everything lumped together. Everytime I bump a nail on something it breaks down into the quick. I hate it but I guess that I will have to live with it the same as I do this canula in my nose. Beverley Joy, 70, IPF, 1-09
