Guest guest
) to the suitcase carrier - we'd only need one if it was happy to be strapped to the roof of the car!! We'll still have time for anglo-saxon trip: provided my dad hasn't moved again by then. Honestly, I could strangle his bloody wife. They bought a pile of a bungalow in 3/4 acre in Bookham and moved in at the beginning of June. Prior to moving they spend £?? (but not negligible, I'll bet!) getting asbestos stripped from the chimney. Then £3000 getting skiploads of clart cleared from the garden. Then £2000 getting the house rewired (it had previously been lived in by sisters in their 80s and was in the sort of condition you'd expect from that). I haven't visited yet, but from the floor plans they showed me it looks like a funny old place anyway - not a corridor or hallway in sight and half the rooms can only be reached by going through other rooms ie through the living room to a guest bedroom etc. which wouldn't suit me, but still.. Anyway, since they moved in, he's been working in Vietnam though he told me (virtually in tears poor love!) that he did try to get out of it and couldn't. And she's been in Italy for a week and Israel for a fortnight. So they've lived there for a month and been home about a week and a half of that time. Fair enough. Now she's whingeing because they can't unpack. Why? Because they haven't decorated yet. Why not? Because the rewiring hasn't been done. Why not? Because nobody's been there to give the electricians access. Why not? Because she doesn't like it there. Why? " Because it's lonely, I don't know anyone, it's dark at night, there's no street lighting, it doesn't feel like home because we can't decorate " . Do we all spot a circular argument here? Of course she doesn't know anyone - she hasn't been there to meet anyone. Of course it's dark at night - that's when the sun goes to bed!! Of course you can't decorate......GRRRRR! Anyway the upshot of it all is that he's gone to Vietnam and apparently behind his back she's agreed to sell the place to developers!!!!! Which I think is iniquitous (and I told her so - can't quite believe I did that!) I mean fine, if she doesn't like the place don't live in it - but after all *she* chose it - literally, Dad wanted to go to Suffolk and she talked him into it. But just because she doesn't want to live in it doesn't give her the right to sell it off to bloody developers. She's making my blood boil just thinking about it! There's precious few houses with large areas of garden in green belt areas and the fact that one of my family would consider reducing that number makes me crawl with shame, frankly. Oh well, girls, got that off my chest for the morning )) Bet you're sorry you asked now, aren't you Caro??!! Off to the web on a cottage hunt...
