Dean has posted my recent results from doing the Comprehensive Liver

Detox Profile with Great Smokies.

My doctor has not used this test in connection with this chelation

protocol, so it will be helpful if anyone has comments, insights, or

other knowledge on what this test is/is not telling me. I'm hoping

perhaps someone else has dealt with similar results.

This is an example of fast Phase I & resulting high rates of

oxidation.

In the past year, without Andy's information, I'd supported

methylation with SamE or TMG/Folate/B12, but wasn't certain whether

NAC was helpful, and took glutamine & glycine daily. Now I'm

following the combined NAC/glutamine/glycine recommendation to boost

glutathione and things seem to be going better in terms of energy

and fewer symptoms with chelation. I've known for years glucosamine

was a real joint saver (osteoarthritis) & it greatly lessened my

joint inflammation/flare-ups, but not all 'brands' worked. Since

switching exclusively to the sulfate form, as our book points out,

I'm always getting sulfate.

At present, I'm trying to eat more grapefruit & take grapefruit seed

extract, oil of oregano & tumeric. Those are supplements I had

around & sensed something good from taking them on occation - but

didn't know what it was. It does seem my energy level &

concentration are significantly improved by using one or a

combination of these in the morning and afternoon to slow the fast

Phase I activity, but it's only been a couple of weeks since

starting it.

As to medications that hit problem pathways or affect liver

function, hormones are what I've needed and taken, but any form of

ERT has been a problem & both estrogen & dhea do not metabolize

correctly into other forms of hormone. While amalgams were still in

both compounded Rx progesterone & testosterone could build up in my

bloodstream. All of my hormones have tested low in the past. Due

to symptoms, I cut my ERT in half to lower the dose several months

ago.

I'm not on cortisol, but it's consistently very low normal,

following the normal pattern, in saliva tests. Is this a hormone

I'd have trouble metabolizing?

Why are things with a stimulant effect so helpful & life so

miserable/sluggish/painful without it - I know this test result

tells something in that regard, but I don't know what it is. Do

caffeine or other stimulants slow Phase I? I'm so scared of using

stimulants that this is hardly acquired reliance on them; in fact, I

avoided them almost entirely per a doctor's recommendation for

several years, but had to get back to small amounts most days just

to function a little. It seems my thyroid medication is nearly

ineffective without the combination taken together. I seem to

benefit from supplementing tyrosine & DMAE in combination, too,

while GABA, 5HTP & Melatonin are very helpful for getting to sleep &

getting a good night's rest. I'm adding this, because I suspect

it's all connected.

Does it make sense that medications, like thyroid, are lasting

longer in my system, i.e., 5 hours instead of 4 or less since using

things like grapefruit seed extract & tumeric? I was so sure of

this I decided to clock them to verify it, as I'm terribly achy,

sluggish, brain foggy, & have an alternating slow & racing heart

rate when thyroid (Cytomel) loses effectiveness & really hate

getting my doses too late.

Is ALA going to help the overall liver situation? I'm certain that

while I'm on rounds & getting my low doses of ALA, my hormone

medications are more effective.

Is the Fast Phase I something that can ever be turned around? Does

my test actually show slow phase II in connection with this? I'm

assuming not - but ratios on page 2 aren't good. Cysteine/sulfate

levels start a bit low - how does that connect? Or did a lot of

irreversible damage occur prior to getting help with supplements 4-5

years ago? I'd actually reached the stage of acute chemical

sensitivities 14-15 years ago, but still had amalgam until this past

October.

I also had indepth blood work done on cholesterol. Since getting

bloodstream Hg levels down in the past few years, it seems I'm going

from low cholesterol levels into high. My weight is relatively

low. A dangerous form of LDL has crossed into the 'at risk' zone,

despite consistent years of fish oil/flax oil supplements, & Vit D

was now recommended with them. Is this connected with liver detox

ability & developing lipid peroxide-type free radicals?

Thanks so much, & I do hope seeing another test result will

encourage more to have the Comprehensive Liver Detox Profile test

done, if possible.
