Guest guest
BNF definition: Pethidine produces prompt but short-lasting analgesia; it is less constipating than morphine, but even in high doses is a less potent analgesia........... Morphine is naturally occurring whereas Pethidine is made in a laboratory. (Kestin I (1993). Pharmacology. Issue 3, Article 6) Pethidine and Morphine are in the same class of drugs: opioid analgesics. The BNF also points out that Pethidine Hydrochloride (its full name) has the same cautions, contra-indications and side effects as Morphine Salts.
