Guest guest
I do believe most people think cause I do not post much I am not really part of this group. However, I do read posts every day - normally. This past week has been a huge acception. Wednesday night my daughter who is bipolar was hospitalized for the third time in a month. The first time they released her in a lot of RA pain due to the inability to give her the meds for it combined with the lithium. They also had her on so much uppers and downers that she had no clue. So they readmitted her and changed her to a bit of other meds and a different bipolar med. However, this one can only be increased by 25 mg every 2 weeks and 100 is theraputic. So they released her on 25 mg. That was Monday last week. On Wed. night she took all the meds she had in her house. Luckily her sister only left 3 days' worth there. However she was still knocked out and spent the next day with an airway in and in the ICU. I sat in the ICU all day thurs and friday with her and until she woke up thurs night we did not know if or the extent of brain damage. Luckily she is not appearing brain damaged in any way but possible short term memory but we will not know until her bipolar is stablized. She is back in the psych unit or behavioral health i think they now call it. I call it locked away from harm. Yesterday I ended up at my doctors' being put on steroids once again as well as antibiotics. We do not know if it is stress alone or if someone in the ICU had something that I caught. They can not tell me if there was a patient in there with something that I could have gotten even without giving me a name and there were several patients in there. They are siting HIPPA. I say that by just giving the information to my doctor regarding something like we have a patient with bronchial pneumonia for example in our unit they are not violating anything HIPPA. So here I sit not knowing something that could be vital to my own health. Jean
