Guest guest
I picked up an Australian parenting magazine this week and was gobsmacked by the featured family's remoteness. They (mum, dad, 3 kids plus uncle and grandparents and assorted casual labour) live on a cattle station of 1.1million acres with 6500 cattle. They are 9 hours' drive from the nearest town and 130km from the nearest bitumen road. Last year the mother flew to the nearest town to have their third child and whilst away, floods cut off the station and it was four months before they could return home. Schooling is done at home for their 6yo with half an hour a day spent talking to the other children in his 'class' over the radio. And to think I used to fret cos we were half an hour's train ride from the city!! ;-)) -- Sue Melbourne, Australia
