This is exactly what we do.

Steffi announced on the way to the station earlier this week that

'[she] believe that baby Jesus' dad made this planet and all the

other ones'. The alternative theory we gave her was that there was a

Big Bang a long time ago.

She's got a bit of a thing about 'baby Jesus' ATM which is quite sweet

considering she doesn't get any religious instruction.

Yesterday, after we left the Post Office she told me that she thought

the lady behind the counter came from a different planet as she had a

red dot on her head. :-)) I told her I didn't know enough about the

lady's culture to explain why she had this but next time we go in, she

should ask, but I was certain that she wasn't from another planet!

No, Mum, you ask. OK. So sometime in the next couple of days I'll be

in there, asking.

Assuming she's Indian, then the red dot is usually simply a sign that she's

married, IIRC. The bindi *can* also reflect caste, but more usually is

simply a fashion accessory these days - in the big cities, anyway. My

friend Shivani, who lives in Mumbai, doesn't wear one at all unless for

special occasions or if she's working with foreigners (ie me!). She does

produce beautiful packets of very ornate bindi for Jemima and I, though.
