salami, steak, bacon--my first thought was nitrates. Does this

suggest a deficiency to anyone, and what supplements might help?

Terribly Sorry. I looked into this but didn't check to see if my

response posted.

The only thing I could find was that the 'fatty food' craving may be

because of insufficiently digested fats. So the person may not be

getting enough essential fatty acids. Or be absorbing or

metabolizing essential fatty acids properly even if they eat them.

This would be the job of the enzyme lipase. Most all the general

broad-spectrum products contain some lipase. Enzymedica also makes

Lypo which is higher in lipase than other products. Dr. Atkins

company makes some enzymes designed for the high protein/high fat

diet. This product basically has more proteases and lipase than

others.

Another possibility would be he is craving some amino acid, but I

didn't find anything specifically that said a amino acid deficiency

produces meat cravings. Also, yes nitrates do seem like a good idea.

But again, I don't recall a nitrate intolerance producing cravings

(they might, I just have never read that).

Meat cravings seem to be common among vegetarians. Some vegetarian

sites say this is 'withdrawal' from meat and can be fixed by adding

wheat gluten:

Some vegetarian sites suggest this is lack of the B vitamins

especially B12. Or a lack of energy and trying to feel more peppy in

the day.

Another suggestion was low iron which you can get from red meat.

Here is a link saying how fats help us feel full/satisfied. One

theory is that fats may also have something to do with feeling calm

and good because of interactions with neuro-receptors in the brain.

What type of diet does this little guy usually have? More

vegetarian, or more GFCF, etc.
