I'm with you on this Debbie. I write to Troy who is a prisoner on Death Row and have done so for the last 10 years - I do this through an organisation called Lifelines whose purpose is to: " Support and befriend prisoners on Death Row in the United States through letter writing. It is not a religious organisation " I agree that the only thing that the DP can serve is retribution but whether the legal process should support such inhumanity is another issue. It is also the case that the statistics for DP prisoners are frightening, whether you end up on DR is a lottery, mainly dependent on whether you have good legal representation (in the US this will depend on whether you can buy good legal council) and on what colour your skin is. Also, I can't remember the statistics (anyone else know?) but if you are black and kill a white person you will almost certainly be given the DP whilst if you are white and kill a black person you will probably get life without parole (if that).
