Guest guest
Thought of you, Ruthie, tonight when the news featured a phone bill run up by an Australian teenager - $85,000!!! He'd been phoning chat lines - not sex lines or even dating ones, just the ones that help you meet other people. Hope you never have to fork out that much :-) -- Sue Oz
Guest guest
> Oh gosh, was that a month or a quarter? Not sure if the bill was monthly - ours usually are but there was something about it being 2k when they first got it, then rising massively over a few days. The reporter asked the boy whether he was aware of how much the cals were costing him and his answer was very honest I thought - something like 'Well, I knew some were expensive but I didn't know that one was'. Apparently his parents may lose their house trying to pay it. And he now has a phone which allows incoming calls only. It does make me wonder how this happens - when Grae rented a flat in London a couple of years ago, he had a phone bill in his name for the first time ever since he arrived in the UK 8 years before. Bt imposed a limit of 500/qtr which we exceeded when his mum became ill and we were phoning NZ regularly. He got a letter from BT saying he had exceeded the limit imposed but when I phoned and explained they said it was just a courtesy letter and they automatically raised the 'limit'!! -- Sue
