Supposedly it goes from the portal vein in the liver to a heart vein, so the

blood does not pass through the liver or get backed up there, which is what

is causing the ascites. I'm calling dr. tomorrow b/c we never heard

anything about manual pumping....??? I know there are many shunts, with many

purposes... I'll let y'all know...as soon as I find out...LOL
