Hi again,

I've just become a member and, after reading the experiences of others, feel I

have not been a good self advocate. I am now on another round of pred and doing

60mg and so on by the week. It makes me crazy as anyone knows who's done it.

Asking for Xanax is like pulling teeth. At 67, a retired RN, if I was going to

be an addict, I've had every opportunity. Ten 0.5mg at a time which cost me ten

dollars co-pay is rediculous. I am seeing our family practitioner maybe

tomorrow if they can " fit me in " to get more.

I can go to the " happy Dr. " on the other end of town and pay %50 and get all the

5mg I want but must we be forced into that sleezy behavior just because we're

ill?

Now, the question arises, am I asking for the wrong thing and who has had what

experience over the long haul in depending on it when on high dose pred? I

rarely do this much pred. Is there a better way? I am bonkers with nothing.

Any ideas? This is very dehumanizing and humiliating to go begging and be

treated like a criminal. Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

My primary gave me a script for some Xanax to help w/ the panic and anxiety that

comes when you can't breath. He gave me .25mg as needed. Well, I was seeing a

psychiatrist for depression. When she found out about the xanax, she went

ballistic! Telling me that I shouldn't take it. She said it was too addictive.

She doesn't believe in any type of " benzo " (xanax, ativan, clonipin, etc.) She

was so bad that I ended up not seeing her anymore. My primary still gives me

xanax. I've never noticed it making me snippy or anything. Actually, it helps

calm me when the prednisone makes me nuts. Pulmo guy doesn't seem to have a

problem with me taking it too.

I took Xanax- .5 mg at night to sleep and it put me to sleep. Cut thru the anxiety and let me sleep well. I have never used it during the day so can't help you there. I no longer use anything to sleep with but had no trouble stopping the med. I have been tokld it is addictive but I didn't find it so. Joyce Rudy AZ

Re: Xanax

ann..Hello and Welcome...if I haven't said so already.I have been on varied levels of Prednisone in the almost 4 years since DX.I have been in counseling for the anxiety the depression from the NSIP forces on me. I have also been given scriptsfor Atavan (.05 mg) and or Valium(2mg) by my pulmodude to help with the problems. The psychologist sent me to a psychiatristwho basically said to keep doing what I was doing. Talking, dealing day by day and taking the atavan or valium whenever I felt really bad.I've had not problem with the prescriptions...however...MEDICARE PART D does not cover any mental health related drugs..it's all out of pocket!!I get extremely anxious and stressed out with prednisone and all that this illness brings with it. If I'm going to be home and not out at all...I'll take the atavan..it in its small dose makes me not give a S---.If I'm going to be out the Valium takes an edge off but I can function just fine.I hope that this helps. I've never taken Zanax but you should not be made to feel badly for needing medication to help deal withthe stresses of PF or the other medications themselves!!!

And "mild" PH/10/07 and Reynaud's too!!

No, NSIP was not self-inflicted.I never smoked!
