I get terrible feelings of insecurity if I don't have lots of reading matter with me but I'm not sure whether to take books from home (I've a stack of new ones to tempt me) bearing in mind the weight, or whether to get them in New York. As in the UK, you can hunt around on bargain tables. If you just want some cheapo paperbacks for reading while you are here, you can always just buy and leave behind when you are finished.
