Guest guest
<<>Did you know that in America > >they have > >wipe warmers?!!! > > You mean those things that all seem to be recalled because > they overheat and start fires and/or have loose electrical > fittings that give the parents a nasty shock? The wipes > aren't THAT cold! I guess you can sell anything if you > convince people they need it... >> The first time I read about these I LOL. I could not believe that ANYONE could be that stupid that they bought one of these. Then I asked my email loop (all but me American or Canadian) and all but one had one.... none of them liked theirs however.. Made me feel I had the right idea.. My babies get the " cold " wipe straight on their botty never once flinched about it either.. Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already. Guest guest
My personal theory is that wipes warmers are a byproduct of the baby shower industry. You invite 20 or 30 people to your shower(s) and there are only so many useful presents they can give you. I think they are the weirdest thing - totally unecessary (may jr like to have a refreshing cold wipe on his bottom), and questionable bacteriologically. Guest guest
>>My personal theory is that wipes warmers are a byproduct of the baby shower industry. Haha, this brought back memories. I was in the US when I was 7 months pregnant, and had dinner with the very sweet, but very American girlfriend of a friend of ours. Oh you must have enjoyed buying all those cute little baby items, right, she says. Dh and I look at each other. Eeeh, we haven't really bought a thing, we say. Shock, horror. She looks at us in disbelief. Oh, but at least you will be getting lots at the baby shower, she says. The baby shower? we say. We get visions of another crazy American consumer item - ie a special shower for a baby? The babies we know have baths, we say. No, no, she says, the BABY SHOWER. Long explanations follow. I don't she really believed us although we kept insisted that we'd never heard of such a thing, and that no - my mother, my company, my mother-in-law, the neighbours, and our friends were not all going to arrange crazy baby shower parties to shower us with gifts... This is what the 1,001 different varieties of cloth nappy were invented for :-) - I just hadn't realised it until now. (My impression had been that baby showers were a form of torture invented expressly for those having difficulty in conceiving) > I think they are the weirdest >thing - totally unecessary (may jr like to have a refreshing cold wipe on >his bottom) Good point. Mine definitely don't, they protest like mad - but midwives were always apologising for their cold hands on me and I prefer cold hands. >, and questionable bacteriologically. Don't most wipes contain loads of preservative type stuff (though is that why?) (Bit edgy about home made solutions for the same reason) Which all reminds me we had an American student with us for a term when I was doing my degree and she did the obstetrics module (lecturer refused to speak to her only half jokingly because she was so envious she'd been at a home birth) Anyway, we had a really dense conversation with her one day about nappies (see I was at it even then) - we were wise to diapers but she still didn't click until suddenly she said " Oh...PAMPERS! In fact they were totally amazed that I'd never heard of them and that I darest to use a wipe on my baby that might be slightly cold! I'm afraid I just thought - to coin an American phrase - Suckers!!! Lorraine Mum to 10, Natasha 8, 5, ph
