Wow, ! I don't know how you do it. Taking care of 5 kids AND working 8

hours on the weekends! I'm in awe.

Thank you for sharing your story with me. My endo is really wonderful and

I'm hopeful that my pregnancy will be uneventful and joyful. Yesterday, I

wasn't able to get through to his nurse. Last night, he called me and said

he saw that I called Friday because I was worried about my labs and possibly

going hypo. He tracked down my labs so I would have them before the

holidays. My FT4 was barely in the low normal range, T3 was normal, TSH was

still 0, and TSI was very high (over 500). He said he suspects I'm going

hypo and should lower my dose back down to 450mg. He also said that with the

TSI so high, the baby's thyroid is probably stimulated even if I dip hypo for

a while, but we want to avoid that. He asked for contact info for my OB and

pediatrician so they could discuss potential complications and agree where my

levels should be, as well as what to watch out for with the baby. Now, I'm

only 5 weeks pregnant (I miscounted before), I had no idea I was supposed to

find a pediatrician so soon! I really love this doctor and trust that he'll

keep a close eye on my pregnancy.

Thanks again for your advice and encouragement. I'm sure I'll take you up on

your offer to write you personally. Please feel free to do the same, my

e-mail address is L@....

Peace,

Tori

First to all who have wondered where in there world I've been, I am just so

swamped with the kids. My oldest three are in grade school, so they are busy

all the time with homework, and they also play ice hockey. My husband also

coaches high school hockey so now we have lived at the rinks since Oct. ,

my fourth, is in preschool so I run there three times a week. And of course my

14 month old ph is constantly on the move. He is a terrible napper so I

don't get a break from him, he is naturally a real mommy's boy. On top of this

I try to get out to work about 8 hrs a week on the weekend. Needless to say,

well it doesn't stop around here. I am very stressed at times but Jerry is an

awesome daddy. Now for health... I was on 150 PTU during the summer and went

hypo in AUgust. I dropped to 100 mgs was okay and then the hypo symptoms

started again. Rather than constanstly run to the labs I have more or less

dropped my dosage to fit my symptoms. I am now taking alternating 25 and 50 mgs

aday as I am still feeling a bit hypo. I will probably drop to just 25 a day.

This happened a year postpartum with my fourth child also. I eventually was off

PTU for 20 months before getting pregnant with my fifth. I am hoping this is a

sign of remission to come soon. I will see with my next labs and endo visit.

It is hard sometimes to guage my symptoms because I suffer from fibromyalgia,

and right now I have been flaring often. But I flare more frequently with hypo.

I have alot of joint and muscle pain again but manage to take some Advil and

just push through the day. It's a funny thing with chronic pain, You just

learn to live with it, like it's actually normal. But my emotional state is

okay... not going off the deep end yet. Despite this all I wouldn't trade my

family for anything. They bring me the greatest joy when I feel the worst!

Now Tori, Because you were in the normal range for T4 I don't see at all why

450 mgs wouldn't be fine. It is early so the risks of PTU shouldn't harm the

baby. Later on it potentially could. I would expect you to be down to 300 mgs

in say another 3-4 weeks. I had an excellent endo with my last pregnancy but a

terrible one with my fourth. You must find an endo who is experienced with

pregnancy. The endo with my fourth messed with me. He had me on 300 mgs of PTU

for most of my pregnancy and he guaged my progress on the TSH. I was in the

hypo range for FT3 and FT4 for months with no TSH so he wouldn't let me lower my

dose. Needless to say I had a bad pregnancy. No one knows exactly the cause,

though I believe it was from hypoT, but I suffered from bleeding and preterm

labor with this pregnancy. This scares me to think the imcompetent doc was

probably the cause of my suffering. Thank GOD the baby was fine though a month

early. It was day and night different with the fifth. The endo worked hand in

hand with my OB to keep my levels in the acceptable range. The OB had me see a

perinatologist and I had ultra sounds every 4-6 weeks. Graves disease is

considered high risk pregnancy, so have your OB follow through with a referral.

Don't let this scare you, consider it some added insurance that you and your

baby are getting the best attention! Well why don't you write me personally as

I don't want to get long winded with the same story everyone else heard already.

I just want to see you enjoy the pregnancy not get too caught up in the what

ifs.... I.
