Hi Deborah, I'm sorry to say, but this usually indicates infection. Especially if the ache 'pulses'. There should not be pain a few days later and certainly not referral into the ear. >The next day it was fine and then 2 days later it was > hurting again, again it stopped. and then started up a little bit I am > not sure if this is a bad thing or not - today my (inside) ear was > feeling a bit of pressure too (the extraction was just below the ear > and that ear had been giving me troubles on a off for a couple of > years) Tomorrow I am going to see the dentist and have him take a look > at it - and my question is... If there is infection he will want to > give me antibiotics. Is this the only way? The socket should be recleaned. I'm assuming the dentist reamed the socket to remove the dental ligament so a cavitation does not form? The best advice is to have it redone, follow the Dental Aftercare program again as indicated here http://www.livingnetwork.co.za/dentalnetwork You should use dental bleach as your antiseptic. >My gut is so messed up > already and really would rather there was a better route. Any comments If there was a lot of infection there to begin with sometime it just does not heal properly and has to be redone. Using anti-biotics now would in many ways provide a 'cover' and make you think that you have cleared stuff, when in fact there couild be an infected socket.
