Guest guest Posted December 8, 2002 Report Share Posted December 8, 2002 Hi , Antimicrosomal antibodies are the same as TPO antibodies, but thyroglobulin antibodies are not the same as TSI. When lab results are particularly high, it's not a good idea to have RAI because the dying thyroid cells release thyroid hormone causing levels to rise even higher. This puts people at risk for thyroid storm given that their immune system is further stimulated by the RAI. ATDs are often used to reduce levels before RAI is given although it's more beneficial to just stay on ATDs at this point for the many reasons described on this board.
