Guest guest
Hi all, Yes, I know I made an introduction months ago and then disappeared. Nothing personal, honest! This list is just so busy I have trouble keeping up ;-) In case anyone is interested I am doing well right now, and still check in on the list and keep up with what I can. Anyway I have a question about the wonderful symptoms list which I know has helped me figure out a few things. How/when was this compiled? I'm fortunate in that my GP is pretty knowledgeable and listens to what I have to say, and agrees that all the things on the list could be symptoms of thyroid problems. Hooray for the good doctor! However I have a colleague who has a history of being HypO, taken thyroxine for the past three years and has been feeling rotten for at least the last three months. And for the last month at .It seems to me that her medication need has probably changed. However when she goes to her doctor, which she has done on at least 4 occaisions in the last 3 months describing her symptoms - which are typical thyroid type symptoms and in the last month or so have included some tingling/numbness in her limbs (a hyper symptom) - he has REFUSED to do further blood tests on the grounds that she is supposed to have them every 18 months (and it has ONLY been 12 months...). Instead, get this, he has referred her to a neurologist!!!! And he said, matter of factly, " Oh you may have a brain tumor " . So now my colleague is extrememly worried as the earliest the neurologist will see her is next september (obviously if the GP REALLY thought it was Brain Tumour he would have tried to rush things up a bit, right???). Now excuse me for thinking this, but if I was a GP and had a patient with a history of hypO complaining of an increase in symptoms the FIRST thing I'd do would be blood tests. Right? Surely it's negligent not too?!??!?!?! And to tell her she might have a brain tumor before testing?? Geez. She's not one to complain, but if that was my GP I'd have him up before the medical council before he could say " What's Free T4? " Anyway ( " get to the point, Zoe " ), my colleague is going to try - in a last ditch effort to get the doctor to do blood tests - showing him they symptom list with her symptoms marked off in BIG RED HIGHLIGHTING (she can even attribute some things she had been disregarding to this list now as well). I am pretty sure, however, that he'll say " This is rubbish. Where did you get it? " . So, any details on how you collated this? In my mind the fact that it comes from Patients who know what they're talking about and have experienced these things is good enough - but for this doctor? Any help? Thanks a bunch (and well done if you got to the bottom of this post!) Zoë
Guest guest
Hi Zoe, I've been mucking around in computer hell lately, trying to switch over to a new Imac and going through conniptions, or I probably would have seen your post before now...but I thought of putting together a symptom list, and the group all contributed, and I compiled it and put it out there a while ago, you could probably go to the archives to find out when. Search symptom list, search Terry ding--it's there somewhere. I also thought up the top 20 list, and again, the group did the work. Hope it helps!
