I saw the same program C4 I think.

IIRC the mould was ergot - when it reaches critical mass (so to speak) it brings

on hallucinations and eventually death and over the centuries has been

responsible for all sorts of mass insane events. One theory for the Marie

Celeste was that the crew had ergotisum (sp?) and threw themselves overboard.

The mould develops in warm dampth which is one of the reasons farmers dry their

grain.

When I was a catering student I did a couple of major papers on 1) Jewish Food

Lores and their reasons and 2) all forms of food poisoning - I was really

pleased with that one
