I have sporadically taken the Defense and Replenish product, a two

stage supplement from CFS nutrition. Good folks. The owner went

through his own Hg related health problems (chron's etc...) and in the

process changed careers etc.... I have not looked over the

ingredient list in a long time. Might include ALA.

----------I just looked, and there isn't any ALA in the Defense or Replenish

product, but he does sell another product with ALA in it. The Defense product

does contain NAC, which could/would be bad for people who are high cysteine, and

maybe even normal cysteine levels.

He also advertises in the DAMS newsletter, promoting NAC as a glutathione

precursor, which it is, but he evidentally has no idea that some people

shouldn't take it based on their cysteine status. He also says, " NAC

facilitates direct excretion of mercury from blood through the kidney wtihout

reabsorption. " Not sure if that is an accurate statement, at least he doesn't

call it a chelator, but it would give people the impression it is.

And from what I remember reading at his site a few years ago, he promoted that

all toxic people take lots of sulfury stuff, so he doesn't understand that part.

He evidentally was low cysteine and benefited from this himself, but doesn't

understand that it's not good for everyone. And I knew I recalled Andy

commenting on him, and here are the posts.

And if I remember right, he used DMPS-IV's, although I don't think he promotes

using them anymore. I think he didn't know any better back then, and that was

probably what was recommended to him. So, I don't believe he has the knowledge

level and understanding of all of this as compared to Andy, so I wouldn't trust

his advice on these matters, and because of that, I don't feel comfortable

promoting his products on this list. Not that they are all bad, and many of his

products are probably fine, it's just you'd have to know yourself what is ok and

what isn't.

Now, it probably sounds like I'm totally bashing Jeff , and I'm not,

because actually his story and website www.cfspages.com about the link between

his CFS and mercury poisoning, is partly what lead me to the mercury issue also.

He had lots of fillings redone with new mercury amalgams in his 20's and went

downhill from there, and that's exactly what happened to me. His story prompted

me to look at my records, and low and behold, I had had 5 old amalgams replaced

with new amalgams in about a 3 year period, and this is when things all started.

Only took me 15 years to figure it out though!

So anyway, I do owe him a debt of gratitude for that, I just wish he

understood the rest of it as well as Andy :) ------------Jackie
