If I remember correctly Swarvoski made chandeliers and then experimented making animals from the various already cut crystals and these resulted in " square " animals. Now they have changed the way they produce them so that they have the beautiful rounded shapes. I for one think that they are gorgeous. DH forgot valentines day the first year we were together, his peace offering was a Swarovski paper weight which has a mirrored base and acts as a prism, reflecting all the colours of the rainbow. He and my sister have bought me various others over the years, but this is still my favourite. (the animals sparkle, but don't do the intense colours) also DH was a student at the time and his peace offering made rather more of a hole in his grant than a box of chocs.
